Why Replace Your Old Bathroom Vanity?
Before you decide on replacing your vanity cabinet, don’t forget to consider the factors below first! If they are already existing and happening, then yes, you should definitely replace your vanity cabinet.

1. Old and moldy cabinet
One of the challenges with bathroom vanity cabinets is they are always in contact with water and prone to moisture. These factors cause mold build up which overtime, can result to more problems like rust and mildew in your cabinet. These weakens the structure of your vanity, too.
So if this is already happening with your bathroom, you definitely need to replace it. As mold also affects our health.

2. In need of extra storage
Aside from our wardrobes, vanity cabinet is also one of the home furniture that has most of our personal stuff that we use every morning and every night. And when it comes to our stuff, we don’t want them cluttering our space with nowhere to store them.
So if you are looking for more storage, installing a vanity cabinet is one of the best solutions you can do. With a vanity cabinet, you can easily store and hide your toiletries to make your bathroom organised and clutter-free.

3. Damaged or broken countertop/benchtop
Bathroom countertops in general need to be replaced every 10 to 15 years, depending on usage and maintenance. And of course, the material and quality of your benchtop. Here are few signs that your countertop needs to be replaced:
a. Stains and discolouration
b. Cracks and damage

How to Remove and Replace a Bathroom Vanity
Remember to not remove your vanity set until your new one comes in! Below are the steps that you must follow to replace your old bathroom vanity:

1. Choose your new vanity – ordering a new bathroom vanity with Onemade is easy. You can do it at home, on your laptop, tablet, or even on your mobile. We have floor standing and wall-mounted vanities, which also come in modern and traditional designs. Make sure to choose the size, colour and finish that best fits your bathroom.

2. Disengage the sink (skip if you are building) - Once your new vanity delivered, you can now go ahead turn off your water valves to disengage the sink. Don’t forget to turn on the faucet to relieve any remaining pressure.
Below your sink, you'll see two things: water pipes and a curved pipe (called the P-trap) that connects to the drain. Put a bucket or towel underneath to catch any water. Loosen the part that connects the curved pipe to the drain, take it off, and make sure you clean out anything stuck inside it.

3. Disengage your water lines (skip if you are building) - Next, you'll need to disconnect the water pipes from the valves (the little knobs that control the water). If there's any sealant or caulk (a sticky material) holding the sink to the wall, use a utility knife to carefully cut through it so the sink can be removed.

4. Detach your dated vanity and repair all damages on your wall area (skip if you are building) – once you have disengaged your water lines, you can now unfasten the screws that held your old vanity and pull them out. If your wall has damage, repair them first before installing your new vanity.

5. Measure and mark the area where you want to install your new vanity – measure and mark the position you desire based on the dimensions of your new bathroom vanity.
Using a stud finder will help you accurately locate and mark the studs within your outlined area. This step is crucial, so taking the time to do it carefully will make a big difference.

6. Install your new Onemade vanity – Align your new bathroom vanity to the marks you made on your wall. Since our vanities are already pre-assembled, you might need another person to help you depend on their size. But if it’s easier, you can also remove the doors to align it better.
Once aligned, use a hand-held drill driver to drill holes and tighten the screws.

7. Attach the sink and mixer, and reconnect the water supply – for the sink, you need to make sure that your vanity benchtop of countertop is dry before putting the caulk. Attach the mixer to the proper hole and fit the p-trap to your new sink drain.
Finish your installation by checking all connections and ensuring that there are no leaks anywhere.
How to Maintain Bathroom Vanities?
While we make sure to only produce and offer high-quality bathroom vanities, it is still important that you know how to maintain them properly to avoid having them replaced after a few years.
Countertop - To keep your countertops and surrounding walls protected from water damage, it's important to regularly check the caulking. Inspect it every year to make sure there’s no chance for water to seep through and cause problems.
If you notice the sealant wearing down, simply remove and reapply a fresh one. With proper care, sealants and caulks can last up to 20 years, giving you peace of mind for the long term.
- Sink & Faucet – aside from regular cleaning, sink and faucet are the two components of your vanity that get wet the most, so if your faucet starts leaking, you must replace your faucet immediately. You also need to check your under pipes to avoid moisture and water damage to your cabinetry.
- Cabinetry - To keep your bathroom vanity cabinet in top shape, wipe it down regularly with a soft, damp cloth to prevent dust and moisture buildup. Avoid using harsh chemicals, as they can damage the finish, and periodically check for any signs of wear, such as loose hardware or hinges. A little maintenance goes a long way in preserving both the look and functionality of your vanity.
